This year, Chicago may finally give New York’s Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade a run for its money, as it was announced today that Chicago’s own the current WWE Champion CM Punk will be the Grand Marshal in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on State Street in Chicago, IL. The parade will take place on Thanksgiving Day (November 22nd) morning from 8am-11am.

As Grand Marshall it will be interesting to see if CM Punk will have a significant piece of hardware with him while he is serving as the Grand Marshal for the cities most traditionally honored annual parade.

The reason why this bring some intrigue now, is due to the fact that on November 18th will be the 2012 WWE Survivor Series. CM Punk is scheduled to defend his WWE Championship in a triple threat match against Ryback and former WWE Champion John Cena.

Originally CM Punk was involved in a “Traditional Survivor Series” match as it was scheduled to be Team Punk vs Team Foley, but per Vince McMahon and Vickie Guerrero’s announcement last night on Raw, Team Punk has now been turned into “Team Ziggler” and Punk will defend his title in the triple threat match.

It wouldn’t be the best look to have CM Punk as the grand marshal being announced as the “Former WWE Champion” so, this may be an indicator as to what the outcome of that match will be.

This wouldn’t be Punk’s first time taking part in some hometown Chicago festivities since being WWE Champion. CM Punk is an avid Chicago Cubs fan and earlier their year was at Wrigley Field (along with Lita) to throw out the first pitch. In addition, CM Punk stopped by the Portage Theater on the north-side of Chicago to have a pre screening of his “Best In The World” DVD with local fans. Seeing him as grand marshal will be received well among the hometown fans!
