WWE.Com – Animal: “Punk is living out my brother’s dream”
Published on January 21st, 2011 by DJ, Filed in Articles, Comments Off

By declaring outright his intentions of screwing CM Punk out of his WWE Championship at the 25th annual Royal Rumble event, John Laurinaitis revealed himself to be a man of deep resentment. That’s according to the one person who has known the Interim General Manager of Raw and EVP of Talent Relations longer than anybody else: his older brother, WWE Hall of Famer Road Warrior Animal. (Road Warrior PHOTOS | VIDEO)

In an exclusive interview, Animal told WWE.com that his brother’s vendetta against The Second City Saint is relatively easy to explain. Whereas Punk has reached the uppermost echelon in sports entertainment – the WWE Championship – Laurinaitis, an accomplished grappler in his own right, was never able to parlay his success overseas into a main event slot in the U.S.

“It’s one thing to be popular in Japan, and it’s another to make it in the U.S.,” Animal said. “That’s one thing that eats John from the inside, deep in his gut. I think he carries animosity over that, because he never got to be ‘the guy’ in the U.S. the way that CM Punk is today. I think he’s getting on Punk’s case because Punk is living the dream that John wishes he could have accomplished.” Continue reading »

WWE.com: Are CM Punk’s days as WWE Champion numbered?
Published on January 21st, 2011 by DJ, Filed in Articles, Videos, Comments Off

CM Punk has faced – and overcome – many challenges during his rise to becoming WWE Champion. Not only did he fight tooth-and-nail to wrest the coveted title from John Cena – twice – he had to work just as hard to get it back from Alberto Del Rio. However, after everything that’s transpired on Raw SuperShow over the past several weeks, Punk could be up against his biggest challenge yet when he faces Dolph Ziggler at the 25th anniversary of Royal Rumble. (PREVIEW)

On Raw SuperShow, EVP of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis admitted that he’s going to try and screw Punk out of his title when he serves as the guest referee at Royal Rumble (WATCH). And if history is any indication, guest refs have been notorious for being anything but fair. (SPECIAL GUEST REFEREES: NOT SO BLACK AND WHITE) Immediately after the shocking confession, Punk responded in a WWE.com Exclusive Video. (WATCH) Continue reading »

# 22: WWE Championship Triple Threat TLC Match from WWE TLC

Through blistering battles with John Cena and captivating interviews, CM Punk earned his spot as the biggest Superstar of 2011. At WWE TLC, The Straight Edge Superstar proved he deserved it. Defending his WWE Championship against The Miz and Alberto Del Rio in a dangerous Triple Threat TLC Match, The Second City Saint overcame the underhanded tactics of his rivals — including the interference of Ricardo Rodriguez and being handcuffed to the turnbuckle by The Awesome One — and scaled the ladder to grab the his title. Soon after, Punk tweeted, “My march to WrestleMania doesn’t begin after the Rumble. It starts today. You’re in or you’re out. If you’re out, you’ll be left behind.” So, in or out? Continue reading »

WWE.com: Did CM Punk start a revolution?

Did CM Punk start a revolution?

During a live broadcast of Raw on June 27, CM Punk sat cross-legged on the entrance ramp in a vintage “Stone Cold” Steve Austin T-shirt and delivered a monologue that has become the sports-entertainment equivalent of William Wallace’s speech to the war weary Scots at the end of “Braveheart.” A pointed, stirring battle cry that both indicted the enemy and roused the people, the call to arms led legions of WWE fans to unite under one word — change.

Frustrated with the direction of an industry he’s loved his entire life, The Straight Edge Superstar wanted to see a younger generation take charge and in the weeks since his incendiary rant he fought an uphill battle to make it happen. Continue reading »

Punk rocks, Red Eye Interview
Published on December 22nd, 2011 by Fabiola, Filed in Articles, Comment? (8)

Thanks to editor, Ted Gruber for sharing his article for Chicago’s very own Red Eye Newspaper. The sub-headline sums it all up, “Chicagoan CM Punk has been the talk of WWE—and now he talks to us.” Read the article below:

“It’s clobberin’ time.”

With those famous words before every wrestling match, Chicagoan and current WWE heavyweight champ CM Punk makes his entrance. Punk’s not only at the top of his game, but he put a spark in professional wrestling this summer with his seemingly off-script rant about WWE owner Vince McMahon and his ascension to the championship—in Chicago, no less.

He talked with RedEye recently about a variety of topics, including his fondness for MMA, as he prepares to return to Allstate Arena on Monday for “Raw.”

Going back to July, how was that feeling of winning the WWE Championship in your hometown?
I don’t think it could have gone any better. It’s an awesome feeling and it was a very hostile environment, and I deal well with those kinds of situations. What better place to win the WWE Championship than in Chicago where I grew up and started my wrestling career.

Before that match you had a contract that was expiring and many didn’t know what was going to happen or where your career would continue. Was that situation on your mind while wrestling in the that match?
That wasn’t something that weighed heavily on my mind during the match because I had all my friends and family watching ringside. That was the real big pressure, trying to impress the fans, and I opened my mouth weeks prior with doing promos. I had a lot to prove.

WWE.Com: Slammy Awards: Who will be “Superstar of the Year?”
Published on December 12th, 2011 by DJ, Filed in Articles, General News, Comment? (2)

Voting has a way of causing animosity in the WWE.com offices. There have been shouting matches at Cyber Sunday, a fistfight during Raw’s Power to the People and that unfortunate atomic wedgie incident in the final round of the 2007 Diva Search. Still, despite some hurt feelings, we’re not shy about voicing our opinions, so we’re looking ahead to the 2011 Slammy Award for “Superstar of the Year,” which is currently drawing thousands of voters to WWE.com. (CLICK HERE TO VOTE NOW)

Reviewing the performances of John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, CM Punk, Mark Henry, The Miz and Randy Orton over the past 12 months, we attempted to pick the odds of who will win the coveted Slammy — and avoid getting our Hanes yanked over our heads because of it. Continue reading »

There he was, with nearly 15,000 WWE fans packed into the Allstate Arena near Chicago for Money in the Bank. The heat of the lights was nothing compared to having that many wide-eyed devotees bringing their chants to a fever pitch – “CM Punk! CM Punk! CM Punk!”

It was the start of a special run, the first of a series of defining victories that took place in America’s biggest cities for The “Voice of the Voiceless.” Continue reading »

WWE 12 interview – CM Punk talks about the game, WrestleMania, comic books and more
Published on December 7th, 2011 by DJ, Filed in Articles, Comment? (6)

In just a matter of months CM Punk has gone from undervalued and underrated to the one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE, currently holding the top title belt in the promotion. Thanks in part to his appeal to older fans and his respect for wrestling’s past, he’s at the top of his game these days. It seems the rest of sports entertainment has finally caught on to what hardcore fans have known for years: CM Punk is the best in the world.

Like most of the roster, Punk appears in WWE 12, the newest wrestling game from THQ and the successor to the SmackDown franchise, though thanks to contract disputes earlier in the year Punk almost didn’t make it. He got in just under the wire, and the devs were even able to incorporate his new entrance theme “Cult of Personality.” We sat down with the champion as he enjoyed his breakfast, he remarked about how impressed he was at the game makers’ ability to keep up with all the additions to expanding number of tattoos.

We began reflecting on the year that’s been and asking Punk how he thinks he can make next year even better. “Well it just depends on what I do at WrestleMania. It has to be something high profile at this point, but obviously the main event is set. So once again I miss out on what should be my rightful spot in Mania. But I’m a big Chicago Cubs fan, so I used to saying ‘there’s always next year.’”
