Smackdown Results: Nine days until WrestleMania

After being tormented in front of his family last week, Rey Mysterio eagerly accepted CM Punk’s challenge for a WrestleMania match. However, The Master of the 619 wanted their differences to be settled in a Street Fight! Not willing to give in to Mysterio’s request so easily, Punk demanded that he beat Luke Gallows in a match on SmackDown – or their WrestleMania encounter would be a straight up match. Piling on the stipulations, CM Punk declared that if Rey touches him before WrestleMania, their match is off. And if The Ultimate Underdog loses at WrestleMania, he must take the Straight Edge pledge!
After stinging Luke Gallows with the 619, Rey Mysterio appeared to be on his way to victory – and a Street Fight with CM Punk. However, as Mysterio set up on the top ropes, Serena grabbed his feet, causing him to fall to the canvas. Gallows capitalized, covering Mysterio for the win. Frustrated with the outcome, Mysterio launched into an uncharacteristic vicious attack on Gallows outside of the ring. The loss means Mysterio will now face CM Punk in straight up match at WrestleMania.

While CM Punk hasn’t completely convinced his Rookie, Darren Young, to drop his South Beach party boy habits and convert to the Straight Edge lifestyle, he has guided him to victory more than once. On WWE NXT this week, Young earned a tag team victory when he pinned Pro Matt Hardy after Punk hit him with the Go To Sleep when the official wasn’t watching. With the Straight Edge Superstar on his side, Young has been unstoppable, and has increased his record to 2-1. But will Young change his life and join the Straight Edge Society? That may not happen this week, as after Young’s win, he was attacked by SES member Luke Gallows, who hit the Gallows Pole on Young, as well as Hardy and his Rookie, Justin Gabriel, as a sign of solidarity as Punk and Serena smugly looked on. As for Gabriel, his once-perfect record dropped to 2-1.

On last Tuesday’s debut edition of WWE NXT, Darren Young suffered a quick loss to the imposing and confident David Otunga due in part to a lack of guidance from Young’s WWE Pro, CM Punk. This week, however, the South Beach party boy got a helping hand from The Straight Edge Savior and his loyal followers, Serena & Luke Gallows.
While the impressive Rookies battled evenly in the early goings of the match, Young was given a window of opportunity after Punk grabbed Otunga’s leg. With the red carpet Rookie distracted, the powerful Young slammed his opponent to the mat and scored his first win on WWE NXT. Frustrated with his loss, Otunga shoved his WWE Pro, R-Truth, after the match.

NXT Rookie David “A-List” Otunga brought his A-game to the WWE NXT premiere, picking up his first win in front of the WWE Universe. Under the guidance of his WWE Pro, R-Truth, Harvard Law graduate Otunga defeated Darren Young, who had an ornery CM Punk, Luke Gallows and Serena in his corner. The confident, charismatic and strong Otunga took just minutes to impressively defeat South Beach party boy Young. But the WWE Universe is left to wonder how Young will fare in WWE NXT when his Pro, Punk, is less than excited to mentor the NXT Rookie, that is, unless he’s ready to join the Straight Edge Society.
