CM Punk def. Rey Mysterio (WATCH)
Rey Mysterio scored the victory over CM Punk last Monday night in a tag team match, but this week, The Second City Savior found salvation. The leader of The New Nexus, accompanied by powerhouse Mason Ryan, relished exacting revenge on his longtime rival. He avoided the high altitude assault let loose by The Master of the 619 and dropped his nemesis with a jaw-rattling kick to the head.

WWE Champion John Cena was clearly pained a night after suffering one of the worst pummelings of his career. Fresh off an “I Quit” Match against The Miz at WWE Over the Limit, The Champ was tapped to join Rey Mysterio in a tag team match against CM Punk & R-Truth with Bret Hart acting as special guest referee.

Despite a hard-charging effort by both Truth and his pious partner, Cena refused to let his battered and bruised body lie still. The Champ kicked out of sure pins and fought back with dogged determination. But even Cena’s steel-belted body has its limits. It would be up to WWE’s Littlest Big Man to carry the day for his team – a tall order he would fill with Herculian effort.

Rey capitalized on his elusive build and high-flying frame to hobble both Truth & Punk within seconds of one another. He then nailed Punk with a 619, but Hart wasn’t about to let him have all the fun. The WWE Hall of Famer, fed up with Punk’s in-ring antics, belted The Second City Savior across the jaw and locked him in the Sharpshooter, allowing Rey to pin his shoulders for the victory.

WWE Tag Team Champions Big Show & Kane def. CM Punk & Mason Ryan

WWE Tag Team Champions Big Show & Kane once again proved what happens when the irresistible force and the immovable object are combined. The larger-than-life duo were too much for former World Champion CM Punk and his New Nexus cohort, Mason Ryan, to handle as the Tag Team Champions double chokeslammed Ryan to retain their titles and continue their dominant reign.

Undoubtedly, it was Big Show & Kane’s strategy that ultimately got the better of The New Nexus. Though two of the largest Superstars in WWE history, Kane & Big Show are only a pair, whereas the four men of The New Nexus display strength in numbers. However, the tag team champions were out to dominate in Seattle’s KeyArena and did so both physically and psychologically.

WWE Over the Limit Preview
Published on May 23rd, 2011 by DJ, Filed in Preview, Comments Off

20110516_otl_kaneshow_punkryan_preTackling the formidable challenge of WWE Tag Team Champions Big Show & Kane would seem a fool’s errand. Despite the obvious pitfalls, however, their opponents at WWE Over the Limit, CM Punk & Mason Ryan, are hardly dupes.

On the contrary, The Second City Savior, a man so sinister he was inducted into the inaugural class of WWE.com’s Hall of Infamy, has proven himself as wily a Superstar as has ever inhabited WWE. Paired with the chainsaw temper and menacing muscle of Ryan, the New Nexus leader and his disciple have ample opportunity to seize their first-ever WWE Tag Team Titles.

Easier said than done. To capture the championships, Punk & Ryan must first pull off the in-ring equivalent of snatching raw salmon from the jaws of two hungry grizzlies. Since combining their sizable strengths, The Big Red Monster & The World’s Largest Athlete have dominated the rosters of both SmackDown (where Kane reigns), and Raw (which recently drafted Big Show).

In the weeks leading up to their showdown in Seattle, the four have been entangled in an ever escalating war, each eager to punish the other. Will the towering terrors continue to cast a shadow over the WWE landscape? Or will the New Nexus duo manage to take out the lofty leviathans at the knees? To find out, order WWE Over the Limit, May 22 at 8/7 CT, live on pay-per-view, or be a part of the action live at Seattle’s KeyArena by ordering tickets here.

Punk is known for his outspoken views, which have often caused trouble backstage and got him in hot water with his bosses.

However, reflecting on a career that saw him start by wrestling in his garden as a teenager, the headliner said he wouldn’t change a thing.

Speaking to Fighting Spirit Magazine, Punk said: “For me the thing I’m most proud of — aside from being three-time heavyweight champion and winning Money In The Bank — is the fact that I started wrestling in my backyard when I was 15, and now I’m here.

“When a WWE PPV finished, I went to the backyard with my friends and we started trading blows with each other, just goofing off.

“I was CM Punk when I was rolling around with my friends in the backyard when I was 15, and now I’m CM Punk at WrestleMania XXVII fighting Randy Orton in front of 70,000 people. Continue reading »

CM Punk def. U.S. Champion Kofi Kingston in a Non-Title Match
The Second City Savior vowed to show “leadership by example.” He needed to do something after the embarrassing shellacking he and his New Nexus disciple, Mason Ryan, suffered at the hands of their WWE Over the Limit opponents, WWE Tag Team Champions Big Show & Kane.

As a result, The Second City Savior challenged U.S. Champion Kofi Kingston to a non-title match. After prevailing over the impressive Dreadlock Dynamo, Punk announced that the New Nexus were on a road to redemption and vowed that the group will regain its former dominance.
