Major surprise over Punka nd Luke getting number 1 contendership. Really hapy but up against DX? yeaaaaaah I dont see that ending in victory but I really hope Punk wins the Rumble.

Really happy with the result, but a bit disappointed in the match. I think the match needed to be longer to bring out the best in all the characters involved. There is issues between many of the eigght involved, but these never seemed to come across. I think Gallows came across well, given the short time he had, as usual Punk seemed to have the job of making others look good and wasn’t allowed toshine himself much during this match, but hey at least it was the right result this time.
Can’t imagine Punk/Gallows getting the tag titles, cos lets face it DX haven’t had them that long and they are the golden boys of WWE, but I’m ever hopeful WWE will give the titles to a team with true talent.
I thought the Punk’s induction of that Trevor guy is really well done. Last week was quite nurturing and reassuring, where as this week was raw passion and emotion. Punk was like some crazy evangelical preacher- awesome delivery! Great to see Luke Gallows get the opportunity to develop his character by addressing the WWE universe. I think this character suits him a lot better than Festus, The only concern I have with this is that it may get tedious after a few week, cos I’m not sure how it can be variation on a theme for many more weeks.
Next week i’d love to see CM Punk get a match as long as the Jericho/Morrison match went on for. In fact I’d loke to see him face either of those two. I think both Jericho and Morrison are technically sound wrestlers, but how much a certain person is allowed to shine is in the lap of WWE.

Seeing Luke Gallows continue forward and finally say something was really cool, he’s an interesting addition to the smackdown roster and the best partner the WWE could have ever given CM Punk. I hope that if a mini feud develops with DX that at least for one week the belts will go to Punk/Gallows both guys have worked their asses off making the straightedge preacher/cult leader thing work as well as it has and they deserve something for their efforts, its not an easy gimmick to sell. I dont think anyone else could have done it as well as CM Punk has. The match was not so good have to say, but against DX next week we are all expecting Punk and Shawn to do some amazing things though none of us Punk fans expect a victory, though they should get the victory as DX are the visitors and not the homies.

@ Rob, be nice if the WWE broke with formula for the DX match and gave CM Punk and Luke Gallows a shock win after a mammoth match, that would shock the WWE Universe and instantly inject some life into the feud, it would really set the stage for something BIG between these four heavyweight players. Everyone expects DX to just win and its already boring just contemplating it really, those guys are not serious with all the jokes and the little guy and all the merchandise they sell, im hoping for more than a DX sales convention. Please WWE leave the little guy at home this week, we want a respectable wrestling match.

I hope HHH will be a good boy, we all understand from his previous comments that he has some past issues with CM Punk, just hope Luke has Punk’s back if there is any cheap shots thrown in. I do think this feud will be THE tag-feud of 2010 and I have a feeling its going to get down and dirty, and real personal. Two masters of their crafts CM Punk and Shaun Michaels and two of the biggest hitters in the WWE, H and Gallows, should be very interesting how this plays out.

@ rob, I think the straightedge gimmick works so well for Punk, because he truely believes it. I’m sure WWE couldnt find many if indeed any other wrestlers that don’t drink/smoke/do drugs. There is only Punk that could pull it off but to bring others in with him is indeed a talent. Nice job on the promos these last few weeks I think.
Punk v Michaels is something we’ve been asking for for months on these comment pages, lets hope it builds into someothing big. I think it would be good for DX to have a decent team to face, and yes @crazy leave the little guy at home this week, in fact leave him there for good! DX have never entertained me, but now its just down right boring! Even my 6 year old daughter says they act like babies!! Is it a definate match for next week then? I hadn’t picked up on that.

I thought it was a mis-fired smackdown this week, but Punk and Gallows continue to roll bigtime with their conversion stuff, Gallows on the mic was a nice touch, he’s impressive that fella, really dig his work with Punk. Best match by about 4 lengths of a Kenworth Kane v Dolph Ziggler, was darn good, Kanes shit is unexpectedly sharp for a big boy and Ziggler is like the energizer bunny, I think someone said that before but its true, he just dont quit, they have a surprising chemistry Ziggler and Kane. I promised Punknut id mention the ladies cause they are killing it every week with the storyline and the way they deliver the package LOL. Punknut is a huge Mickie and McCool fan but Im more partial to Ms Beth Pheonix, plenty of gals trucking across America who look like Beth, strong and sexy, no hillbillies mess with those ladies LOL.

Cant wait for next week, DX (SHAWN) v (PUNK)/Gallows. WWE, please give credibility to their matches and leave the liitle fella at home, no offence, but weve been waiting and yakking about this for a long time. We want a serious match.

My first thought was that DX would keep the titles cos they seem to be WWE’s favourites, but the more Ithink about ti, it would make sence for Punk/Gallows to win them and set up a big feud over the tag titles, seeing as there doesn’t really seem to be too many serious tag teams around at the mimute, apart from Hard Dynasty, but don’t think thye’ve been built up enough yet If Punk/Gallows win then we’d get them on raw as well as SD, the only draw back there is that I’d have to sit thrrough that shit just to see Punk/Gallows, cos to be honest, don’t think there is anyone else worth watching on there with the possible of exception of Shawn Michaels and maybe Evan Bourne, who is really growing on me. I think it’ll be interesting to see what WWE do with Bryan Danielson too, apparently he’s going to Raw, I hope they use him wisely and seriously, cos he’s bloody good!

Haven’t heard anything about when the tag title match would be, but I’ve read Punk is in the actual rumble, so can’t imagine it being the same night… hmmm who knows!

It figures RE DX, if one thinks back over last year, who did DX feud with that one can remember? I cant even recall who they fought, yet I remember most of the amazing matches and feuds CM Punk was in. When you dont take your work seriously and dont apply yourself to the details within a match, to the wrestling per se, people turn off, we laugh at DX;s jokes, but we dont take them seriously because the matches fall short with all the pyrotechnics and celebs and little people. EVERYONE who watches wrestling whether they love him or loath him, takes CM Punk seriously, cause he’s a superb wrestler, HE DELIVERS, yes, already one of the alltime best in my opinion. He deserves the acolades.

I think what makes this even more important , was that this was a READERS POLL, all the votes were from Readers nto the wrestling industry, and yes I did my bit and voted! THE WRESTLING COMMUNITY HAS SPOKEN - WWE TAKE NOTE!
RE. DX, you are right jaggerblade, the only match I can remember is the cell one. The reason it sticks in my mind? it was so damn predictable, must have been the worst match of the year!

Also worth mentioning this poll was for all wrestling promotions not just WWE, however the only category won by TNA was card of the year for Tuning Point…. hmmm interesting!

I am not aware of a website, and have just looked in the mag and there is no mention of one. I wouldn’t have been able to smile so brightly and to pretend to be happy if somebody had cut off my long hair. And it was great to see how carefully Punk shaved her hair off. Great updates Julie, yes like you, i find it of further interest that John Cena was voted 2nd worst wrestler, I think John’s a nice guy, but unfortunately for him and for the WWE it is sad but true, John’s best match of 2009 was against CMPunk and Punk was the reason, and we all loved that match and it improved Cena’s standing for a few weeks after, until he disrespected Punk with that insulting easy beat 2nd match they had at the slammy’s, all down hill for Cena since then, perhaps karma lol. When someone is clearly the best across the board, then they should be recognized and honored. CM Punk should have received the superstar slammy instead of Cena and POWERSLAM magazine and the hundreds of thousands of voters have made a big correction for the WWE in voting for CM Punk in such a massive way. Another big mistake from the WWE. Maria winning the diva of the year slammy was also a mistake, she was hardly around, it should have been Melina or Mickie James or Michelle who were much more the dominant females. The good looking boy wins, the good looking girl wins and neither of them can wrestle to any real degree of excellence. Or take the whole Undertaker thing, it should have been CM Punk to defeat him and or retire him, it backfired bigtime on the WWE and on Undertaker himself who should have listened to the criticisms and understood the reasons why people like punknut were jumping up and down, Taker is just a joke now, sadly, its only getting sadder and harder to watch by the episode. The answer was ofcourse a clean CM Punk victory over Taker [CMPunk, in my mind is the ONLY wrestler who could have given Undertaker a respectable defeat for the betterment of Undertakers fading longevity] and all of a sudden Takers weaknesses would have become his humanness and fans would have accepted his new lesser status and better matches would have resulted, possibly?! But no, WWE has to continue with the overhyped older guard and their shows suffer because of it, not to mention the credibility of those particular wrestlers as such. This is where I see WWE having problems, they concentrate on continuously polishing the shiny people and dont often go deep with the real talent and that leads to moments of embarrasment when truth prevails ie like powerslam mag. Just look at the Royal Rumble poster, look where THE BEST WRESTLER IN THE WORLD ie CM PUNK is positioned! That is just plain wrong!

A great write Bill Flanett, the Rumble poster got my attention for the same reasons you just pointed out. They are promoting Mysterio bigtime, I think they are going to give the win to him over the Taker, your right, it would look better coming from CM Punk, but that ship has sunk unfortuanetly or fortunately! Will it work or will those smart fans want a more balanced looking defeat from a more sized-up opponent, i mean Mysterio is half Takers height, would that look kosher. I dont know if that will work. A better plan would be a hardcore and unexpected CM Punk Royal Rumble win, then he goes on to defeat the Undertaker cleanly and legitamately @Wrestlemania and it would be the final proper and happy end to the Taker/Punk feud and I think the criticisms about Undertaker would all vanish after that and Taker could continue his career with some peace for at least a while longer. Shawn Michaels has had his time with Taker/Wrestlemania, its done, no point going back, time for some new blood, the new generation and indeed the crowning of the true best wrestler in the world, CM Punk. But does the WWE have the balls for such a radical departure from past and tired allegiances? I wish they would do something great, something big, something shocking, all those things belong to CM Punk. Oh the frustration!!! C’mon WWE, get with what the people want, want the smart fans want, what the critics want. Its CM PUNK. He gives power and respectability to that World Heavyweight Championship belt.

Aaaahhh fellas, awesome stuff, so true. Thought-kills idea is darn good and could undo all of the negativity and farcicle stuff that turned Taker/Punk into the most disapointing of Punks 09 matches, not Punks bad ofcourse. But it could be redemption for the Undertaker and the right thing for Punk to reclaim his title.

I like the idea as well, it would certainly bring some closure to Punk-Taker and make the WWE look like they had a master-plan all along, either way to ‘correct’ the big error of 2009. I wonder if Punknut would be down with that idea?

Sounds like a good idea and we can all feel that justice has been done and Undertaker should also feel that the inevitable has been resolved in the best way possible. Its not easy for old warriors to pass the torch, but its either the respectable way re the most obvious and worthy candidate - CM Punk, or the embarrassing way, right now Taker is going down the latter path which is torture to watch, but CM Punk could fix all that, but would Taker be up for it?

He also said along the lines that Taker should let Punk choreograph the design of the match and trust that Punk would create a truly exciting and original match for both wrestlers.
I myself think they definately need to do something different to break the perception of existing Taker Punk matches which were not so well thought out nor exciting to watch. I think a lot of us got the impression that CM Punks ideas within and around the past Taker matches were not so welcome and this time that should change. Cause lets be real, Takers present match design prep is not so wonderful, very 1 dimensional.
We both agreed no more stupid screwjobs or underhanded,assisted wins, a different ref and, a hard, fair battle between the older generation and the new one and a clean, decisive and bruising win for CM Punk. Real whiteknucle stuff is the answer from mr punknut.
But whether the WWE has anything like this in mind or would 2 weeks out from R R contemplate this, who knows? Its worth talking about at least, resolves a lot of shit for a lot of people actually if this went to reality. Also hi to everay1 from punknut, geez I aint good with the long type, that was painful!

Fantastic idea and comments from bill and thought-kill. Isn’t it ironic how the first SD of the new year, the one we all loved, had no Undertaker in it? I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way (honest!!! lol) but not only does Taker make his opponent look slow and talentless but he makes himself look the same. I mean, my god 10 or 12 years ago Undertaker was awesome, he was one of the best and has achieved so much. What a way to end up your career, I think its time Undertaker stepped aside and the wrestlemania thing would be amazing, it was sort out all the issues from HIAC and breaking point and let Undertaker go with some dignity.
The nature of wrestling as always been like the law of the jungle, the young lion comes in and defeats the old king of the pride, and so on and so forth. So why the hell has that all changed? Tripple H and Big Show are two more who spring to mind that have done their bit in the past but now reply on Shaun Michaels and Chris Jericho respectively to make them look like they still have the ability that they used to. This is no way for people to carry on, it no good for the fans, the wrestlers or the identity of wrestling as a whole, it just gives more ammunition to the people that think the industry is for losers who couldn’t make it any other sport and those that doen’t appreciate the true talent skill and athleticism of people like Punk

Yes I did notice that Taker was mysteriously absent from the best ever SD beat the clock show, that was so awesome. Other than Punk and the diva’s there hasnt been much to get excited about since then.
